Spring coming to Old Harlow

Last week when I took DB to the Osteopath, I had a little walk around with my camera while he was there. This was the original town before the new town was built. It is about 2 and a half miles from home and has more of a village feel to it.

I was surprised to come upon this field of crocuses and lovely to see the snowdrops too.

This is a bronze sculpture called Kore by Betty Rea who was born in 1904. Kore was bought in 1975 to celebrate Old Harlow winning the council for European Award for architectural excellence. Those were the days when there was money for some fun things. I like to enjoy the interesting local area.

  1. How lovely Jean, your flowers are ahead of ours. Yes I remember going there with you both and having fish and chips, what a lovely time that was together. I watched on old black and white movie from 1960 and they all left work on their bikes and it made me think of New Harlow and that is how they envisioned it, traffic wise.

    1. yes old pictures of Harlow show all the factory workers leaving for home on their bikes. Hence all the cycle tracks.

  2. Just arrived at your blog from Keeping things Simple and thought I would take a moment to say hello. I was interested to read about your results with the private clinic as my DH has had a really bad stomach since having to take some antibiotics recently to prevent a tooth abscess. He has been taking some probiotics but they haven't really helped that much - but I now wonder if he has a similar problem with no friendly bacteria left in his gut.
I like the statue very much - Betty Rea has done some interseting pieces.

    1. Hi thanks for your comment. I hope your husband gets well soon. I was told that even one course of antibiotics can wipe out our good bacteria but sometimes we just need those meds. I was on probiotics but they were not powerful enough.

  4. All around us there are spring flowers blooming, just not in my garden!! The daffs are starting to come up, but it'll be a while before they flower yet. The last time I was in Harlow must have been way back in the 70's when I was a child on one of our holidays. I also remember walking around a nearby smaller town/village, so perhaps this was it. Best, Jane x

    1. Saw our first daffodil nearby today. Yes you could have been in Old Harlow or maybe Sawbridgeworth where we went today. We moved here in 1988.
